What are solar panels
They are photovoltaic cells which are capable of producing DC power when sunlight falls on them or when a high intensity light fall on them. And they contain siliconTypes
1. monocrystalline panel2. Poly crystalline panel
3. Thin film or armophous panels
Mono crystalline panels
These are panels that are made up of thin shit of silicon and they contain more silicon materials and they are the most efficient panels available for now, they are available in different sizes and their efficiency soar as high as 21 to 22% and they have the longest life span of about 25 - 30 years, they still give output after 30 years but the efficiency reduces and it varies so 30% reduction and more.They are usually black in color and consumes less space as a result of their efficiencies. And don't need too much sun exposure to give good outputs
Polycrystalline panels
These types of panels are also good but they are not as efficient as mono crystalline and they are less expensive compared to mono crystal having an efficiency of 10 - 16%, which makes them need high light intensity to produce a good or best rated output. They are usually blue in color and also have a life span of 25 years but with more degradation as they grow old, but still they have some advantages compared to mono which is beyond the scope of this blog. They are also crystals made up of more than one material.Thin film or armophous panels
They are the least effiefficient panels on the list and have the least degradation years compared to the other two. They also need very high sun intensity to produce a maximum rated output.Panel sizes and rating
Solar panel vary in sizes and the more the wattage the more physically big they are. Don't be cajouled into buying a very high panel wattage for a costly price with small size. The more the size the more the power. They also vary in wattage starting from 1.5 watts to as high as 350 watts. And the common voltages are 12v panel and 24v with 12 volts panel producing 19v and peak voltage of 21volts but usually used to charge 12 okts batteries that's why they are called 12volts panel whereas 24v panels produces an output of about 30 volts and peak voltage of 36 volts but usually used to charge 24v batteries that's why they are called 24 volt panelsAdvantages of solar panel
Solar panel gives a big advantage in that we can categorize them under the fuelless system because they are renewable source of power which need only sunlight or photo reflections. They also don't polite the environment and are easy to work with and install.they also have long life span and don't easily get spoilt.Applications and uses of solar panels.

2. Home , companies and offices
3. NASA and sattelite powering.
4. Well and borehole pumps
5. Solar refrigerator
6. Solar lantern.
7. Solar street light.
8. Solar powered cars.
9. Solar robots and lots more
Solar panels at home
Solar panels are used at home and offices for different purposes, for home to power home appliances in fact some houses don't depend on mains AC for power they depend fully in solar although its costly but reliable especially in Nigeria. And in offices as backup and to power even companies of all sizes.Solar panels find a wide usefulness and has changed the phase of power electronics, and they have been very helpful in the applications mentioned above and more. There is more solar panels than mentioned here but solar panels must be rated and matched with whatever we intend using them for.
Using solar panels in DC pumps
Solar panels find a very good advantage in DC pumps in that they power the pumps directly and tat depends on the rating of the DC pumps, but however there are customized panels for this purpose in that this types of panel tend to have higher voltage than common 12 volts and 24 volts panels. And they are usually use with controllers in thus case in other to fill in for less sun or cloudy situations while pumping.Solar panels in NASA and solar powered cars.
This find a very wide application in NASA and space systems because its practically impossible to go to space and always go to refill the fuel idpf they use fuelling system which makes solar a good use here in that they are renewable energy.They also find wide range in the latest coming cars which are powered by solar, and have battery backup systems, I and my crew are working on one presently and I think and know the future if solar is bright and fast replacing fuelling systems. There are lots more here but let's limit it there.
